Zygaena rhadamanthus
The family of Zygaenidae ranks among my favourites in the world of butterflies and moths, probably because they are most often found in warm, sunny locations where flowers in full bloom abound. And it is quite common to find one sitting on a purple flower of some kind. This one was one exception.

"Zygaena rhadamanthus" is a species of moth in the Zygaenidae family. It is found in France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. The larvae feed on "Onobrychis", "Dorycnium pentaphyllum" and "Lotus" species. The species overwinters in the larval stage.
