  1. This is a stunning shot Travis and very interesting too, so promoted!
I have to confess that this is the first time I have actually looked at the map and....WOW!!! What are the black dots on what appears to be a road? Is it buffalo?
How awesome is technology! I will be looking at a lot more maps!

    1. Thanks Claire! :) The map is a great tool. I look at it often when I am interested in where a species is from or what it's habitat is like. And I believe the dots are people on a trail! Posted 11 years ago

  2. I'm sorry I'm unaware of this kind of Bacterial Mats, Is it formed due to natural calamities like volcano or some of its kind, What is it actually ? Posted 11 years ago
    1. No need to apologize Sunil! These bacterial mats are basically layers of living bacteria that grow on top of each other in these warm waters. Different bacteria grow in different areas of the water, depending on the temperature. So, in this particular shot, what looks like a gray mud is actually bacteria. In another part of this area, the bacteria growing is an orange-ish gold color.
Gold Bacterial Mats Here is a mat of bacteria growing in the water flowing out of Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park. The bacteria growing here happens to be a brilliant orange-gold color! Bacteria,Geotagged,United States,Wyoming,Yellowstone National Park

      Pretty neat stuff!

      1. Thank you very much for the detailed information Travis. Very interesting to know about the different types of bacteria and about their existance. I thought it might be a layered rock that might have formed due to volcanic erruption & the white fog/smoke made me think so. A Peculiar catch indeed. Posted 11 years ago
  3. Great and informative shot, Travis, and Sunil, I did not know of their existenece either;). Wow! Posted 11 years ago
