Tropical butterfly emerging from chrysalis
From the “Selva Bananito Lodge” in the Limón Province of Costa Rica, you can undertake several exciting hikes through different lowland rainforest habitats. One hike led us up the Río Bananito - in absence of any trail literally walking in the river bed.
Right beside the shore my partner (the one with the insect detecting view…) spotted this butterfly that had just emerged from its chrysalis and was drying in the mid-morning sun before spreading its wings for the first time.
Based on my limited own supply of literature on neo-tropical insects and according to https://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/adelpha_cytherea_marcia.htm, this could be Adelpha cytherea marcia - corrections welcome!

"Adelpha cytherea", the smooth-banded sister, is a species of butterfly of the family Nymphalidae. It is found in the Central and South America.
