A young Alpine Marmot (Marmota marmota) We were returning from a splendid mountain hike near Avers in the Canton of Graubünden in Switzerland when this little fellow popped up only a few meters ahead next to the trail. Often, marmots will keep their distance and rapidly disappear if they feel disturbed. But this young one was curious enough to let me snap a picture.
