Smart. Social. Deadly.

  1. Great shot, Ferdy! But calling him "deadly" reminds me of the fairy tale - ooh, the big bad wolf. He's rather "smart, social & shy", don't you think so? By the way: Where have you taken the photo, were the wolves "wild"? Posted 13 years ago
  2. hi Gernot, this was taken in the Arhnem zoo in the Netherlands where they have quite a large living area. Agreed that as an individual they are not that deadly, but as a group they are :) Posted 13 years ago
  3. Thanks for the reply, Ferdy! Of course they're dangerous - if you are part of their prey... ;-)
But seriously: I'm very happy that they are coming back to the north and middle of Germany to live here the way they used to - and maybe I'll be granted the opportunity to meet a wild wolf one day around here, that's what I'm dreaming of. And that is why I take any chance to advertise the wolf's natural shyness: No-one of us will ever be done any harm by a wolf unless we force him to defend himself or his pack!

  4. Couldn't agree more Gernot, I'd love to see wolfs and bears reintroduced into parts of Europe! Posted 13 years ago, modified 13 years ago

The wolf is a large canine native to Eurasia and North America. The wolf is the largest extant member of the family Canidae, and is further distinguished from other Canis species by its less pointed ears and muzzle, as well as a shorter torso and a longer tail.
