The rose-throated becard is a medium-sized member of the family Tityridae. Its genus, "Pachyramphus", has traditionally been placed in Cotingidae or Tyrannidae, but evidence strongly suggest it is better placed in Tityridae. This species was named in honour of AglaƩ Brelay.
