Loxodonta cyclotis female and her calf
Loxodonta cyclotis are forest elephants native from humid forest from west and central Africa. They almost never leave their forests and love bathing in the rivers, they can scuba dive with their trunks out of the water, very fun to watch !
If you look closely on the baby elephant's ear, at the bas, you will see a white spot. This is a tick, a female of Amblyomma tholloni species, well engorged !
The African forest elephant is a forest-dwelling species of elephant found in the Congo Basin. It is the smallest of the three extant species of elephant, but also the third-largest living terrestrial animal. The African forest elephant and the African bush elephant were considered to be one species until genetic studies showed their relationship is distant.
