    1. I saw my first one of these at Arenal Observatory Lodge on my first wet, rainy, dark trip to Costa Rica. The sun came out for just a few seconds and this spectacular gem perched in front of me, an explosion of color. It was just amazing. The blue-throated sapphire, also known as the blue-throated goldentail, is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. It is found in Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest.
