  1. Birding in white-sand forests is HARD. Or rather, it is fairly easy to get common birds around the edges and rack up a decent total for the day, but once you get inside the forest, things get real quiet. So even though there are a number of really cool birds that are only found in these forests, I didn't connect with a single one over 3 days. So I was reduced to walking the trails and randomly playing bursts of playback of northern Amazonian species that I knew occurred in the area. This hardly ever worked either, but this was the one notable exception, when I got this lovely and uncommon antshrike to pop up from the bush and check me out, allowing me just enough time for a couple of shots.
    ... And that's 105 :)

The pearly antshrike is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae. It is monotypic within the genus "Megastictus". It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, where its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.
