I always thought that Israel's national bird should have been frozen chicken ;-)

  almost, it's the most popular protein used in dishes :-)
  there are more people in Israel that can recognize frozen chicken than those who can recognize the Hoopoe ;-P

Still, a very cool national bird - much better than the usual eagles, etc. (it is also one of my favorites and I saw my first one in Israel!). Posted 2 years ago

The Eurasian hoopoe

The Eurasian hoopoe is the most widespread species of the genus "Upupa". It is a distinctive cinnamon coloured bird with black and white wings, a tall erectile crest, a broad white band across a black tail, and a long narrow downcurved bill. Its call is a soft "oop-oop-oop".
