  1. I definitely need some help with this one! Could it be a male Button spider? It is really tiny, 3-4mm. I am in the Western Cape so the location is right. If this is a button spider then that is scary as it means that the deadly venomous female is also around!

  2. It looks like it could possibly be a young Latrodectus indistinctus specimen...Was it hanging somewhat upside-down in the web? That is typical behavior exhibited by button or widow spiders. They also tend to be a little more active at night. Posted 11 years ago
  3. It might also be L. tredecimguttatus, as they have the spots on the abdomen similar to this. But they are typically found much farther north than South Africa; typically found throughout Europe and Asia and the Mediterranean areas. 1. Yes it was hanging upside down in a dark corner of the garden. It was pretty active and caught a fly. Dont think it is the Med one as the spots were much smaller. I actually saw two of these in the garden, but just the tiny ones. Thanks Travis.. I shall now have to go out tomorrow in a suit of armour to try and find the female!! Posted 11 years ago
  4. Good luck and be safe! Let us know how it goes! Posted 11 years ago
