Scorpion-tailed spider
Seen hanging in the centre of a small orb web in green shrubs. These unique looking spiders were given their common name because they sometimes curl the ends of their abdomens upwards in much the same way as a scorpion does.
Males are much smaller and lack the extended abdomen.
Latero-ventral view.
Female, 10 mm length.

"Arachnura higginsi", known as the Tailed Spider or Scorpion Tailed Spider and the Scorpion Orb Weaver is a common Australian spider belonging to the family Araneidae. It occurs in many parts of Australia.
