Red-rumped Ladybird (Scymnus haemorrhoidalis)
This is a scarce but sometimes locally abundant ladybird whicvh reaches no more than 2.2mm in length.
Visually, it's very similar to other Scymnus species such as the Red-flanked Scymnus (Scymnus interruptus) and the Angle-spotted Scymnus (Scymnus frontalis) but is the only one with broad reddish-brown patches at rear of the elytra, just visible here. It also has a similarly coloured head and hairs on the otherwise darkened body.
Usually associated with damp habitats including bogs, damp grassland, water margins and marshland.
S haemorrhoidalis feeds largely on aphids on low vegetation, which is where it's likely to overwinter.
