  1. This is not a great cormorant but a standard european one which does not appear to get picked up by jungledragon or wikipedia. Posted 11 years ago
    1. Do you mean the European shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis)? I find it hard to discriminate between them when they are not in breeding plumage. I've never been able to count the feathers of the tail ;)
      Where did you take the photo?
      Try to enter the scientific name - it works better than common names.

      1. This (according to the book) is very definately a Cormorant being Phalacrocorax carbo. It was taken in the netherlands in a place called lepelaarsplassen. But they are very common here and in the UK. Posted 11 years ago

The Great Cormorant, known as the Great Black Cormorant across the Northern Hemisphere, the Black Cormorant in Australia and the Black Shag further south in New Zealand, is a widespread member of the cormorant family of seabirds. It breeds in much of the Old World and the Atlantic coast of North America.
