  1. I am really stumped with this one! I know it was a long time ago, but did you ever manage to identify this? Looking at the beak, I am wondering Tityra, but the rest of the colouration doesn't fit. Hard to tell the size too...tanager?? Posted 7 years ago
    1. Hello Claire, I hadn't but thanks to your suggestion I have now. It is a Brazilian Tityra which is a sub species of the black-tailed tityra. I also think it is the female variant. If you google the brazilian tityra there are pictures that are very close to the one above (no red for example). So thankyou for that. Posted 7 years ago, modified 7 years ago

The black-tailed tityra is a medium-sized passerine bird of tropical South America. The tityras have been placed in the cotinga or the tyrant flycatcher families by various authors. But the weight of evidence strongly suggest they and their closest relatives are better separated as Tityridae; the AOU for example advocates this separation.
