Mycena pseudocorticola Mycena is a large genus of small saprotrophic mushrooms, saprotrophic meaning they obtain their nutrition from non-living organic materials.  As such their role in our environment is absolutely crucial, breaking down and recycling a wide range of organic matter, not just wood.<br />

Mycena pseudocorticola is a tiny bonnet mushroom (cap width no more than 12mm) sometimes known as the Steely bonnet.<br />

It can be found primarily during the autumn and winter periods on moss-covered bark of various living deciduous trees.<br />
