Lionesses blocking Serengeti path We were destined to cross this little stream, but it looked like we weren't getting anywhere for a while. That's OK though, this is obviously where we came for. The left lioness is the dominant one, feeding on a Warthog head. The other 2 are just pretending to be interested in drinking, they really want the head. The lion is one of the five big cats in the genus "Panthera" and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250 kg in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger.
