Common raven - Corvus corax
On yesterday's walk outside Berlin where I am for a week - the ravens in the wild do not always allow themselves to be approached and disturbed by people. There were domestic animals around and a group of ravens was more relaxed and this gave me the opportunity to get some good shots. Look at the amazing metallic glints on the bird's feathers!
The Common Raven, also known as the Northern Raven, is a large, all-black passerine bird. Found across the northern hemisphere, it is the most widely distributed of all corvids. It is one of the two largest corvids, alongside the Thick-billed Raven, and is possibly the heaviest passerine bird; at maturity, the Common Raven averages 63 cm in length and 1.2 kg.
