Pelagic Stingray - Pteroplatytrygon violacea Saw this Stingray swimming near the surface behind boat during surface interval, went into water to check it out to find it was caught with a fish hook and long fishing line and the line was tangled to the Boat. Fish hook was removed from the Stingray but it continued to swim around the boat for a few minutes.<br />

Had originally thought the scars/injuries on the Stingray was due to scraping with the Boat, turned out it was mating scars! :D Anilao,Batangas,Fish,Pelagic stingray,Pteroplatytrygon violacea,Stingray Click/tap to enlarge Species introCountry intro

The pelagic stingray is a species of stingray in the family Dasyatidae, and the sole member of its genus. It is characterized by the wedge-like shape of its pectoral fin disc, which is much wider than long, as well as by the pointed teeth in both sexes, whip-like tail with extremely long tail spine, and uniform violet to blue-green coloration. It generally reaches 59 cm in width.
