    ...but either way, excellent that you're filling the gap there in our shortage of marine wildlife photos.

    Note that manual species creation is suspended for a few weeks but we'll pick these up once the new species system is ready.

    1. Yes, I had read said post, Ferdy. It inspired me to dig a bit into my photo archives, and the few pictures I uploaded today were the result!

      And I understand about the species system being under construction. Good luck with the renovations!

    1. Yes, Ludo, this is actually an upside-down jellyfish. They get their name because they often swim upside-down, as you see here. They will also rest on the bottom upside-down and wave their tentacles around! Posted 11 years ago

''Cassiopea xamachana'', commonly known as the upside-down jellyfish, is a species of jellyfish in the family Cassiopeidae. It is found in warm parts of the western Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. It was first described by the American marine biologist Henry Bryant Bigelow in 1892.
