Cannabis sativa, Hemp
The Openair Museum Hessenpark (Freilichtmuseum Hessenpark) cultivates Cannabis in order to demonstrate the traditional use of this plant. I took the picture in 2015. Cloth is woven from the fibres, ropes are made, paper is made. Before the spread of cotton, hemp and flax were the most important fiber crops in Europe. The museum is located in Neu-Anspach, were I live.

"Cannabis sativa" is an annual herbaceous flowering plant indigenous to Eastern Asia, but now of cosmopolitan distribution due to widespread cultivation. It has been cultivated throughout recorded history, used as a source of industrial fiber, seed oil, food, recreation, religious and spiritual moods and medicine.
