Clematis viticella, the Italian leather flower, purple clematis,
Picture taken at the plant market September 2019 in the Freilichtmuseum Hessenpark. A splendor of flowers in many colors and sizes from early bloomers to late bloomers are possible. There are hundreds of Hybrids and Cultivars available. I had them for many years and enjoyed to watch them grow with their lovely pink blossoms. The clematis needs climbing aids. In nature she looks for trees, which she even overgrows over the years.

"Clematis viticella", the purple clematis, is a species of flowering plant in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae, native to Europe.
