Xylocopa violacea, Carpenter Bee,, on a Snapdragon (Antirrhinum) blossom
The violet Carpenter Bee is the biggest bee in Germany. It has the size of a Bumble Bee Queen and is dark black. From diving into many Snapdragon blossoms her back is full of yellow pollen. Took the picture in September 2021 on my loggia.

"Xylocopa violacea", the violet carpenter bee, is the common European species of carpenter bee, and one of the largest bees in Europe. It is also native to Asia. Like most members of the genus "Xylocopa", it makes its nests in dead wood. It is not particularly aggressive, and will attack only if forced to.
