  1. I'm not familiar with the subspecies javanus, but I think this is Pachliopta aristolochiae rather than polytes. Posted 2 years ago
    1. This is supposely "Pachliopta adamas" for the species found in Java. Pachliopta aristolochiae is similar to P. adamas but mostly found in Sumatera n Malaysian Peninsula. However, I still put "Papilio polytes ssp javanus" as being told by a Singaporean butterfly expert. He said the body n abnomen of this butterfly is black n should be red or orange or mixied red & black for Pachliopta species. Other opinion ..... When I asked an Indonesian butterfly experts, I was told that this is Pachliopta adamas. Hahahaha for me does't matter which one is correct as I'm just love insects&flower photography not an experts. 1. Interesting! Thanks for the added information. I definitely side with the experts as they know best. Wikipedia says that Pachliopta adamas is "sometimes treated as a subspecies of Pachliopta aristolochiae." I don't know if that is accurate, though. If so, then your butterfly might be Pachliopta aristolochiae adamas. Would you like me to change the ID to P. adamas or leave it as Pachliopta aristolochiae? I'm fine with either as both might be correct, lol.

Hahaha it doesn't matter for me Christine. I'm not an Entomologist but jus a common person who love macro photography n sharing my photos/pictures to this group n others. As I mentioned earlier that firstly I identify this butterfly as P. aristolochiae but corrected by a Singaporean Butterfly experts as Papilio Polytes javanus. However, this ID was then corrected by few Indonesian butterfly experts as P. adamas. For me, the ID is required to put on my posted photos/pictures as the title of my photos. Correct or Wrong ...... I will leave it to their experts. Thanks Christine.
