Thistle tortoise beetle pupa After taking the photo I was really wondering what I had photographed. It was some kind of beetle and it was looking fierce. After some searching I found it to be a larvea of a tortoise. I assume it is only a dead shell. <br />

  3. Very nice to find it here. It was not a dead shell, it's a pupa of Cassida sp.
    Do you know how to identify them, any key?

  4. I agree with Rui, that this is a pupa and I have changed the title accordingly. There is fair chance that this could be identified (I've been rearing with some species), but I'm not there yet ... Posted 6 years ago

The thistle tortoise beetle, "Cassida rubiginosa", is a tortoise beetle, and as such belongs to the leaf beetles. It has a green carapace.
