Jersey Tiger Moth (Euplagia quadripunctaria) I was surprised to find this mighty day-flying moth feeding on the Hemp Agrimony in my front garden at 2am in the morning, since I've never seen one in the area before and there are no previous NBN records in Brighton or Sussex.

And let's face it, with a wingspan is 52–65 millimetres, and that very vivid red clouring very obvious in flight, one couldn't really miss it!

I was even more surpised to find one in the same small garden 24hrs later!

It's possible it was the same individual, although I didn't see or disturb it during the day, as I pottered about?

Flying from July to September it's considered a very localised species in the UK, mostly on the far western coastline of southern England and the Isle of Wight, and therefore is considered fairly rare although its distribution shows signs of widening and there's a small resident population in south London.
