  1. New name for this species is Phalacrocorax auritus, so had to re-identify. Posted 3 years ago
    1. It's actually the other way around... it used to be called Phalacrocorax autirius, but it was changed to Nannopterum auritum this year (other cormorant species have changed as well). Posted 3 years ago
      1. Really? Do you have a source for this? The reason I ask is that all formal systems still list "Phalacrocorax autirius"

        https://eol.org/pages/45511372/names
        https://www.gbif.org/species/2481875

Here (scroll down the page) the other name is even striked through:
        https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/4265-Phalacrocorax-auritus

Note that I'm fine to change it once it's formalized. In any case we have to merge all observations under a single record, regardless of the name.

        1. "Formerly, many other species of cormorant were classified in Phalacrocorax, but most of these have been split out into different genera." "Several different classifications of the family have been proposed, but in 2021 the IOC adopted a consensus taxonomy of seven genera."
The only species in the Phalacrocorax genus now are Old World cormorants.

          1. Thanks. Interesting how none of the 3 main taxonomy systems have adopted this decision.
No worries though, I've now set it up so that both species name link to the same record.
