Indian Cuckoo ( Female ) This was the beginning of my photography hobby. It was morning 6.00am, I just went to the terrace of my house in Dharwad and sat for the birds to come on the trees. I was able to hear chirping of Bullbul and then after an hour of waiting, this cuckoo came and sat so silently. Due to my lack of experience I couldn't make a good snap better than this. 1. What a wonderful start of your hobby! Bird photography is hard, and in this case just capturing the species at all is significant. With patience I'm sure you'll get another opportunity. Well done! Posted 11 years ago

  2. Your photo still captures the magnificence of this bird and I am sure like the rest of us, you are becoming addicted to finding new species! Posted 11 years ago
  3. Sorry, but it's actually a female Indian Koel. Note the strong bill and black and white patterning expanding both onto the back and right up the neck. Posted 9 years ago

The Asian koel is a member of the cuckoo order of birds, the Cuculiformes. It is found in South Asia, China, and Southeast Asia. It forms a superspecies with the closely related black-billed and Pacific koels which are sometimes treated as subspecies. The Asian koel is a brood parasite that lays its eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts, who raise its young. They are unusual among the cuckoos in being largely frugivorous as adults.
