Azalea sphinx - Darapsa choerilus I saw this species earlier in moth week and was happy to see it again last night -- and it looks to be a different individual as the first one was quite brown and this one was very reddish pink!<br />

    1. Thanks :). I had a HUGE sphinx moth spinning in circles on the ground in front of my light last night. It was the size of my hand and was in distress because it had a wad of spider silk stuck to its wing. I removed the silk, the moth flew away, and didn't even come back so I could get a photo. "Darapsa choerilus", the azalea sphinx, is a moth of the family Sphingidae first described by Pieter Cramer in 1779. It is found in the United States and southern Canada east of the Rocky Mountains.
