A Rocky Mountain Clearwing?
While eating lunch on the deck this strange “bee” was hovering around the trailing lobelia. I had the camera ready to take photos of the Merlins but was distracted by this beemoth. Hemaris thetis was the only one that was close when I entered four different photos into iNaturalist.

"Hemaris thetis", the Rocky Mountain clearwing or California clearwing, is a moth of the family Sphingidae. It is found from Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah west to California and north to British Columbia. The habitat consists of streamsides and meadows in mountainous areas.
