  1. This was 83 imagines in which I used a process called slabbing. I stacked ten images at a time into a single image and then stacked those images. This was my first attempt at doing this. Posted 3 years ago, modified 3 years ago
    1. Great images, William. I heard that slabbing can reduce the amount of artifacts that may occur when merging many images. Posted 3 years ago
      1. Yes. It generally is used with large number of shots and is particularly good for fine wings and hairs that cross. The beetle was a fairly straight forward stack, but I wanted to try out slabbing. I don't think it reduced much of my edit time. I will try it again on a more challenging image. Posted 3 years ago

"Eleodes obscura" is a species of darkling beetle in the genus "Eleodes" of western North America. It ranges from south-central British Columbia, eastern Washington and Oregon, south to northern Mexico and east to Nebraska, Kansas and Texas.
