  1. Breathtaking view, my friend! Posted 3 years ago
    1. Ferdy, have to say these last two days have been quite glorious! Sunshine with little wind, perfect weather to be out in a small boat. Posted 3 years ago
      1. Nice! Are you involved in the study of these birds, since you mentioned that you were awaiting data? Posted 3 years ago
        1. Not necessarily, but I am interested enough to have sent a photo of the bird with the bands to the US “Bird Banding Lab” to receive information about this particular bird. The response was that I have to be patient for a response! Gary Posted 3 years ago
        2. Ferdy, just received an email telling me that banded tern was banded in the nest near Walla Walla, Washington on June 26, 2012… 8 years ago! Gary Posted 3 years ago
          1. Whoa, did not know they get so old, thanks for the update! Did it travel far from its birthing ground? Posted 3 years ago
            1. Ferdy, the nesting site is about 250 miles from where I photographed the bird. Of course that isn’t taking into account the other 71/2 years of its life! Quite the traveller for sure! Posted 3 years ago

The Caspian tern is a species of tern, with a subcosmopolitan but scattered distribution. Despite its extensive range, it is monotypic of its genus, and has no subspecies accepted either. In New Zealand it is also known by the Maori name "taranui".
