Starling - Sturnus vulgaris I was drinking the best maple-oat iced coffee ever while enjoying the shade under this Navy airplane when a starling appeared. It perched above me with a bug in its mouth and then flew up under the plane and through a small crack. I immediately heard the babies chirping and was amazed that this bird was nesting inside this old plane. Afterwards, I saw several other starlings nesting in the cracks and in the propellers.<br />

The common starling or European starling (Sturnus vulgaris), also known simply as the starling in the British Isles, is a medium-sized passerine bird in the starling family, Sturnidae. It is about 20 cm (8 in) long and has glossy black plumage with a metallic sheen, which is speckled with white at some times of year.
