  1. The first antpitta I ever saw, years ago in Colombia. Much harder to see in Peru, since they don't visit worm feeders! (This subspecies also looks quite different, way at the southern end of the species' range) I could hear three or four of these singing every day from the house, it was lovely to finally track one down! The chestnut-crowned antpitta is a species of bird in the Grallariidae family. It is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest, which it has a much greater tolerance for than most antpittas. Usually this bird lives at elevations of 1,900 to 3,100 m.
