  1. The perspective makes it all the more overwhelming. I was wondering where the french influence is coming from in the naming? Posted 11 years ago
    1. The river is named after the city of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The city of Coeur d'Alene was named after a local Native American tribe that was discovered and named by the French for their tough trading practices. Coeur d'Alene translated into English is "heart of an awl" which could mean sharp-hearted or shrewd. I spent a summer working in this area. One of the most beautiful places I have had the pleasure of visiting, hands down. Posted 11 years ago
      1. Thanks for the history lesson. "sharp-hearted"...the native Americans are so wise. Posted 11 years ago
