    1. That was only my second time seeing it, and I was really pleased to find such a cooperative individual!
      But because this was its resting perch in the shade, I couldn't capture the full iridescence that gives it its name. Said iridescence is also quite variable between the different subspecies, which show a turnover over quite small distances in southern Ecuador and northern Peru. If I get a better shot highlighting the "rainbow", I'll upload it as well!

The rainbow starfrontlet is a species of hummingbird in the "brilliants", tribe Heliantheini in subfamily Lesbiinae. It is found in Ecuador and Peru.
