Rare Huntsman Spider Found this Huntsman Spider on a night walk with 3 other serious Macro Photographers
While waiting for them to arrives, I found this Huntsman Spider that I was not familiar to me and when they showed up, I pointed to them and says it is a Heteropoda-like Huntsman Spider. Hearing it is a Huntsman Spider, they didn't bother to take any pics of it at all.
Was surprised when I eventually got an ID of it, seems to be not common, and was also fairly newly described in 2008, but not documented from Malaysia. Barylestis saaristoi,Huntsman Spider,Malaysia,Penang,Spider Click/tap to enlarge Species introCountry intro

  1. I'm familiar with the behavior, and you can add most crickets and cockroaches to it...often skipped. Maybe because they're common but probably because they are common-looking. Personally, I find *everything* interesting but am frustrated that in these categories, I almost never come to a species ID. Posted 3 years ago
    1. Indeed, lots of 'regular/common' looking stuff can be tough to get species ID.
Fortunately, this one seems to stands out and has unique features :D
