Stinging Hydroid - Pachyrhynchia cuppressina

This Stinging Hydroids can cause serious issues for divers who accidentally brushed against them as they not only stings, but the stings may cause rashes that may last a few weeks and even after recovery may reappears after a few weeks.

    1. Indeed, some divers have resorted to wear surgical type of gloves during their dives, as this type of gloves still allows them to still better handle their camera. Posted 3 years ago
      1. This is a well camouflaged Shrimp on the Hydroid :

        Stinging Hydroid Shrimp with Parasite - Hippolyte sp This is a tiny Shrimp - Hippolyte sp., on Stinging Hydroid.  They are very well camouflaged on its host Stinging Hydroid and this one is carrying Parasite as seen in the 'bulge' on its left side.         1. This is a Nudibranch on a different Hydroid :

          Nudibranch - Doto ussi The bubbly roundish thing is a Nudibranch, it is less than 1 cm in size.  As it was resting, the rhinopores (two pointed thing on the head) is not showing.  It feeds on stinging hydroid, which if touches your skin will cause severe itchiness and pain and the itchiness may even last for weeks!           1. This is Decorator Crab on a different Hydroid, but have also been found on Pachyrhynchia cuppressina, with cut-pieces of the hydroids decorating on its back :
