  2. Welcome to the JungleDragon. I took the liberty to add your genus and species name in the description as well as some brief information about this insect. Additionally I identified the species. JungleDragon is a very nonthreatening place for nature photographers like myself to share their photographs. There are 3 basic requirements that we all strive to include with our photographs. 1) a description of the image hopefully with its common or scientific name 2) it's identified genus and species 3) where the picture was taken. The red-striped oil beetle, "Berberomeloe majalis" is one of the largest insects found in Europe, with a typical length around 5 cm. Its large size and the bright red bands around its body make it unmistakable; its colouration is aposematic, reflecting its ability, in common with other oil or blister beetles in the family Meloidae, to squirt a caustic liquid if attacked.
