Scarred Zebra on Ngorongoro crater floor
I don't know the story of this Zebra, but likely it is one of hardship judged by its many scars. It lives on the Ngorongoro crater floor, where it faces numerous enemies in a surrounding where there is no place to hide; the crater floor is very flat. I have this photo printed poster-size in our living room. It reminds me of a few things when I look at it. Above all, it puts my own little sufferings in perspective, them being petty complaints.
The plains zebra, also known as the common zebra, is the most common and geographically widespread species of zebra. Its range is fragmented, but spans much of southern and eastern Africa south of the Sahara. Six subspecies have been recognised including the extinct quagga which was thought to be a separate species.
