Agave parryi var. truncata or Artichoke Agave
Origin N. Central Mexico
Is an evergreen, perennial succulent forming tight rosettes of thick, broad, short, pale blue gray leaves that terminates in a dark brown spine. Leaves carry on their lower surfaces imprints of the thorny leaf margins of the previous outer leaf bud. Once plants mature over a ten-year period they only flower once with the bicolored inflorescence that has an orange color bud but opens as a yellow flower.

Agave parryi, known as Parry's agave or mescal agave, is a flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae. It is a slow-growing succulent perennial native to Arizona, New Mexico, and northern Mexico.
