
Achiote is a shrub or small tree originating from the tropical region of the Americas. The name derives from the Nahuatl word for the shrub, "āchiotl" [aːˈt͡ʃiot͡ɬ]. It is also known as Aploppas, and its original Tupi name "uruku".
