Fairy Firefox This is my fourth red panda I have seen in the wild. This one is my
one of the favorite red panda photo that I have taken till date in the wild. It was a good
luck morning in September 2008. It was taken at Choyatar Community
Forest, Jamuna, Ilam, Eastern Nepal. The community forest has success
stories of red panda conservation through community stewardship with
support from Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund. I waited for 3 hours
to take this picture. The red panda stayed on the top of the tree just
staring to me when he noticed me. The red panda is a shy, elusive and
vulnerable species of mountain forest. Nepal, India, China, Bhutan and
Myanmar are the red panda range countries. The remaining population is
less than 10,000 individuals in the wild. The Red Panda is threatened
by habitat loss and fragmentation and poaching.
2. That is a wonderful shot of a Red Panda, I have only ever seen them in a zoo so I am very jealous. Very sad that this and so many other species are threatened by habitat loss.

The red panda , is a small arboreal mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It is the only extant species of the genus ''Ailurus''. Slightly larger than a domestic cat, it has reddish-brown fur, a long, shaggy tail, and a waddling gait due to its shorter front legs. It feeds mainly on bamboo, but is omnivorous and may also eat eggs, birds, insects, and small mammals. It is a solitary animal, mainly active from dusk to dawn, and is largely sedentary during the day.
