Wounded Hook-billed kite, Los Cedros Reserve, Ecuador
As we ended our night tour and were almost back at the head quarters of Los Cedros, we came across this wounded hook-billed kite. It seems to have a deep cut near the beak. As it saw us, it tried to fly away, but crashed back to the floor. It then did it again.
We figured to leave it alone, hoping it can rest and recover on its own. Luckily, the next morning we saw it soaring through the sky again:

The hook-billed kite, is a bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as kites, eagles, and harriers. It occurs in the Americas, including the Rio Grande Valley of Texas in the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and tropical South America.
