Lepanthes Espejo - frontal, Los Cedros Reserve, Ecuador
Our team discoverd this Lepanthes species that is new to science. We confirmed this with Luis Baquero, one of Ecuador's leading specialists in minature orchids.
We took a sample, preserved it, and sent it to Luis. No updates yet on it being described. The idea for a name would be to name it after the judge that ruled in favor of Los Cedros in a legal dispute regarding mining rights in this pristine habitat.
As none of that is formalized yet, I'm giving it a temporary working name Lepanthes "Espejo", in honour of our guide and friend Manuel Espejo. I'll update the species record once we get a formal name.

Lepanthes Espejo is a temporary working name for a lepanthes species newly discovered in the Los Cedros Reserve, Ecuador, in November 2021.

It's currently in the process of being described by experts and has yet to be assigned a species name. In the meantime, Ferdy is referring to it as Lepanthes "espejo", in honor of their guide and friend, Manuel Espejo. #JungleDragon #lepanthes #loscedros #ecuador
