Beat the heat || Kalahari Desert || Oct 2018
The Kalahari Desert spans the borders of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. During the summer, temperatures soar to 40°C in summers and can drop below freezing during winters. Despite these harsh conditions, many animals have adapted to live there. To survive in the Kalahari, this group of zebras, much like other animals that survive here take respite from the heat under this camel thorn tree.
The plains zebra, also known as the common zebra, is the most common and geographically widespread species of zebra. Its range is fragmented, but spans much of southern and eastern Africa south of the Sahara. Six subspecies have been recognised including the extinct quagga which was thought to be a separate species.
