On the prowl
|| Cape cross seal reserve || Oct 2018
Along the Skeleton coast in Namibia lies the Cape Cross, world’s largest breeding colony of Cape fur seals. Here a small population of the black backed jackals have adapted themselves to live in this harsh environment, this is possible due to the fur seal colony. The jackals are opportunistic and live mainly on seal pups that stray away from their mothers.

The black-backed jackal is a canid native to two areas of Africa, separated by roughly 900 km. One region includes the southernmost tip of the continent, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. The other area is along the eastern coastline, including Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
