
The Small Emperor Moth is a moth of the family Saturniidae. Sometimes, the incorrect genus name "Pavonia" is still used for this species. This moth occurs throughout the Palearctic region and is the only member of its family to be found in the British Isles where it is usually called simply the Emperor Moth.

Sadly in this part of France it is impossible to make a difference between Saturnia pavonia and Saturnia pavoniella, the species share the same appearance. For a long time Saturnia pavoniella was considered has a subspecies of Saturnia pavonia. The main difference is from the reproductive organs.... Posted 3 years ago
