  1. Dung beetles are my favorite insects! Canthidium sp. seems plausible. Digitonthophagus gazella is quite similar, but the thorax doesn't look like a match. Posted 3 years ago
    1. Honestly, Digitonthophagus gazella looks closer than what I found in Canthidium. Seeing some near-identical photos. Keep in mind that the beetle is somewhat upright, the angle may distort the size of the thorax. Posted 3 years ago
      1. When I initially checked, the images that I saw of Digitonthophagus gazella had horns...but, maybe those were just males because I just checked iNat and there are a bunch without protuberances:

        So, hmmm...you may be right that I was right.

"Onthophagus gazella" is a species of scarab beetle. It belongs to the subgenus "Digitonthophagus", which may also be treated as a genus. There has been some confusion regarding the application of the name.
