I actually don't think this is a kingbird, but rather a Myiarchus flycatcher. In the Ecuadorian lowlands, you'd expect either Dusky-capped or Short-crested, but the thing that bugs me is the amount of rufous on the wings and tail (which is key in ruling out the kingbird, by the way). Still, I'd probably go with Short-crested, but this is a notoriously difficult genus, and I can't say that it is with 100% certainty. Posted 3 years ago

The Short-crested flycatcher

The short-crested flycatcher is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae.

It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest.
